I have a 1991 EFI 26 hp walker that has stopped pressurising the fuel system at start. Runs fine once it starts. Trying to figure out what controls the fuel pump to pressure the system at start up. Thanks in advance

Hello J.,

We need the product label information off the machine along with the engine product label information.

Problems like this are what make the Technical Service Manual worth the investment. Everything else is just guessing and people spit balling armchair theory and telling "once upon a time stories''

Try turning the ignition on and off. Some you have to cycle the ign on and off and some the pump runs until it builds pressure.

Had a similar headache with an old mower of mine. I'd bet it's your fuel pump relay. That's the little switch that tells the pump to run for a couple of seconds when you turn the key. It's probably just worn out from age. Easy way to check is to find the relay (usually in the fuse box), and when you turn the key to the 'ON' position (don't start it), you should feel or hear a little 'click' from it. If it's silent, that's likely your problem. You could also check the fuel pump fuse while you're in there.
Just an idea. Let us know what you find with more photos. Gook luck!

Thank you all for the replies, Auto Doc’s I will look this weekend and see if I can get information off the engine as well as the machine.

hlw49 I did try to cycle the switch hoping that would help, still not getting the system to prime.

Fix it frank I reached out to walker and got a wiring diagram. I’m going to look at wiring and fuel pump relay hopefully this weekend.

Again thanks for the help.

Never Know which one you have until you try to cycle it. Does your mower have a MIL light on it so you can read the Mal function codes on it?
