Don't Really want to spend a lot of money or time on this trimmer but just want to see if it is worth the time. It was sitting for a while and it did start up right away so let it warm up and starting using it and then after about 10min or so it started dying could restart but at full power it would begin to stall again. Left it but looked at it today and this is what I did to get it running better if at all, new fuel, new fuel lines, cleaned air filter, new spark plug, new fuel filter also I did flush the carb as well. So it will run somewhat but will idle but any higher than idle it sounds like it is dieseling, and it is getting very hot. I also checked the exhaust screen and it is clean. Any help for this or should I just toss it???? I've had it since new and it is in really good shape except for this new problem. Also by pulling the start rope seems to have good compression. Thanks in advance for the HELP !!!

Seeing as how I didn't get any replies on this problem I did try a few more things but still came up with the same issues so I just dismantled it and it's in the trash. Really did give me good service for all the years I had it. Only big thing is I think compression wasn't up to specs because it did turn over pretty easy compared to other 2 cycles I have.

If it ever had straight gas put in it, it's shot.

Homelite went out of business about 24 years ago. Most shops don’t work on off brand handheld equipment for a variety of reasons. Good that you took the time to try to get it running. Most likely was a carburetor issue or low compression. To go through the carburetor successfully, it takes experience. To check compression, the best way on a 2-stroke is to remove the muffler and look at the condition of piston, rings, and cylinder. It takes experience to read the amount of scoring to see if it will run or not.

Thanks for the late input but the trimmer was put to rest. !!!! It never had straight gas run-through it always mixed fuel, Like I said in my earlier post I do believe it just lost compression because it was way to easy to pull the start rope. I had this unit since it was new so I'm sure I got my money's worth from it I'm sure I had it at least 28 plus years. Thanks again to take the time to send the suggestions as I know from being on this site you guys are Great for helping people.
