Looking for recommendations on keeping grass build up under my 54” deck. I have heard of a product call Slick Plate has any one used this or something like it.

Clean the underside really well and use PAM cooking spray each time after it is cleaned and dried

Thanks Doc. I am hoping to find something that may last for a while not sure if it is a product out there that will do that. I am not quite as agile as I used to be so spraying it every time I cut would be a challenge.

Don't buy anything from the store. Take your used motor oil and an old paint brush. Slather the underside of the deck. Park it on some weeds.

There is no spray that will last especially in sandy soil. Keep her scraped down and do the used oil trick especially in the fall.

I almost never wash my mowers/decks. I use high pressure air to remove chaff (wet & dry).
Why?
Simple, wet vegetative matter starts to ferment/break down almost as soon as it has been cut. In this process it develops a highly corrosive liquid. The liquid will vigorously attack/corrode all metals.
My rules ;
  • Avoid cutting grass when wet
  • Using high pressure air (from a compressor) blow clean after every use.
  • Pay special attention to deck areas (top & bottom) known to collect chaff & dust.
  • Pay special attention to engine cooling - I usually blow down this area with the engine in fast idle.
NOTE: To do this job well, garden blowers do not deliver enough pressure, do not have the nice narrow blast of an air gun that will let you get into tight areas (especially engine cooling system) 😈

If you've failed to maintain the under side as i do and it's dried , mow wet grass for a couple hours to soak the dry then a water hose with a good multi - pattern nozzle works well to clean the under side .
I avoid dirt , sand and rocks . That's the job of the string trimmer .

try this
Using a sprinkler about 3/ 4 inch tall , so the blades don't contact it , put it under the deck and at full throttle run the blades for a minute or two then move the tractor so another area is cleaned etc.etc. With a little skill ya won't get wet . I find that easier than connecting a hose to the water port and it does a better job .
