Sorry. Kohler kt735 engine

I was charging the battery on my Cub Cadet with a Kawasaki engine. Wife got on it and tried to start it and there was a pop. New battery was purchased and now I only have a loud pitch when I try to start, will not turn over. Any idea what the issue could be? assistance would be greatly appreciated
