Kohler 7000 series 26 hp, thought it was bad gas but I pumped it out and put in fresh gas, before all this I could cut my yard on one tank, it now takes over 2 when it's running, takes forever to restart after it runs out of gas

Mower was running and quit, will start occasionally for a few seconds then shut off. Was using extremely to much gas before this started. Any ideas?
