    Ignition coil

The short answer that you are looking for is YES, you can grind down the iron portion of the coil. It will not affect the operation of the coil.

    Head gasket

Well, the same spot would indicate that either the block, the head, or both are not true. I think you need to get a precision straight edge and check that area on both surfaces. A Starrett brand will be about $100 while an Amazon one will be $30. One is accurate to .0003". while the other is...

Briggs and Stratton flywheel nut removal

Hold on! You said the blade rotates on the engine shaft? You should understand that the blade IS your flywheel! It's where the inertia energy is stored when you first crank or pull the cord. I'm going to say that getting the blade tight on the crankshaft is the FIRST problem you need to fix...

Is electric the way to go now?

A whole forum of small engines not running correct and still wondering if people will switch? I'm going to bet most people who simply want to get yardwork done will switch. Most of these bare tools are cheap to buy. I doubt you could run a profitable business repairing them. If your cordless...

Rebuilt engine hard to turn over, but then loosens up?

If the engine is not hard to turn with the plugs pulled out your problem has nothing to do with the bottom end or anything attached to the engine. It's a compression issue. Either an exhaust valve is not opening when it should or an intake valve is not opening when it should. (think...

    Cheap Chinses Carb

Seriously? Are you not going to take the carb off to least open and clean it before you condemn it?

    Blade bolts to tight

I'm guessing you tried turning in the other direction. I've seen a lot of left hand thread bolts on mower blades.

MTD 24" snowblower with Tecumseh 5ph - Started a couple of days ago, nothing today

Smelling fuel is not the same as fuel entering into the cylinder. Get a can of starting fluid and spray some in the carb. At least know if it's a fuel or spark problem before tearing into the carb. Since you felt it necessary to clean the plug the first time why not get a new one to keep around.

    Blade Wear Seems Odd ???

Simple geometry will prove that the blade tip's speed is roughly 3x that of the area where the paint is still showing. Yes it's hitting the grass that much faster and with that much more force to take the paint off.

    Too much compression?

Some people have just used 2 head gaskets on the head with a little more torque down. This while lowering the overall compression seems to allow the starter to spin the motor to start.

Which would you prefer for your own mower?

Correct battery lugs with proper sized solder pellets. Been using them for years. https://www.batterycablesusa.com/solder-pellets-slugs

Briggs and Stratton Stuck Exhaust Bolt

Reading the last part of your post, I would first check if the head is warped, since it blew a head gasket. Second is find a friend who has a drill press (or buy one) and drill out the the bit and bolt with a cobalt bit.

Briggs L head runs rich no matter what I throw at it.

The only way fuel is coming out of the throat is if the float is bad or the needle and seat is not sealing. Before putting the bowl back on verify that it is in fact sealing when you lift the float.
