    No Spark On Briggs

Yeah, how? Just for the record, a sheared flywheel key will have no affect on whether it has spark, only affect if it is at the right time. (Unless it is a 1980 or older engine) Also, concern with corrosion, dirty, is only with the coil mounting surfaces. Walt Conner

Briggs & Stratton 21hp platinum engine hard to crank and knocks!

A 33 Series engine is of course a single cylinder engine. Sure does not sound like a valve issue to me. You bought a new crankshaft? So you had to remove the old counter weight ass'y and reinstall it on new crankshaft? Sounds to me like your problem is there. Walt Conner

    Interchangeable Engines?

Should not be a problem> IF the charging systems are different, all parts involved are interchangeable including flywheel, even cooling shroud IF the 12.5 flywheel happens to have plastic cooling fan. Walt Conner

    flywheel indentification

Compare the existing flywheel with what you have. Always helps to post engine model number. There are two different flywheels in the 31 series for instance. Check position of key way, difference will not be subtle. Walt Conner

B&S 17.5 hp opppsed twin valve seat???

If you know a machinest, he might make you an oversize valve seat. I expect there are valve seats available which would work but I never bothered to look for them. Walt Conner

    Opposed twin, need some help

B&S idle recommendations for these engines is high to me BUT if you idle them too slow, lubrication does not reach the top main bearing resulting in wear and the accompanying "chuckle" from the top main when idling. Also, there is a little spring on the back side of the carb throttle shaft arm...

B&S 17.5 hp opppsed twin valve seat???

The staking procedure works if done properly and the block isn't wallowed out. I can send you a Service Manual showing the proper procedure, head bolt torque, etc. Address below IF you want it, Put in proper format and remind me the engine model number and what you want. Connecting rods require crank purchase

From the picture, I would say the engine is junk. Parts for these engines are expensive. Probably find a junk mower with usable engine. Walt Conner

Briggs pistons, chrome plated vs plain, visible difference?

As far as I know the plated pistons were for the aluminum bore engines, Kool Bore, and the un-plated ones for the sleeved engines. Walt Conner
