trouble with a john deere Z425 zero turn

Hey, he asked for help, so here goes: " I bought this mower at a swap meet. It did not run, so I rebuilt the motor, and replaced the deck, and flushed the hydraulic system. I also put on a new oem belt, then cut my yard. Over time, the drive belt acted like it was slipping and if you keep...

OK, thank you. I'll just keep up the regular oil changes/air filter, too.

    Oil filter

OK. That said, will it extend engine life to 'flush' these "resting areas" or are they best left alone? Let sleeping dogs lie, as it were?

    Oil filter

You bad! But seriously, does the filter on any lawn/garden really do anything after the initial break-in period? I realize that some machining shavings, etc may be circulating the first hour or two, but after that? One of my engines has a filter, but the others do not. So on the non-filtered...

Okay, this is going to be weird. Rear-engine goes too fast.

Over this weekend, I replaced the worn shift yoke on my 1984 XT 33 Snapper rider. Not a real easy task given the amount of space and all the associated linkages. That said,a lot of us here have did considerable amounts of mechanical work where we have had to start a nut or bolt in a 'blind'...

Many members way more knowledgeable than me have begged, cajoled and scolded to get the simple ID of the mower/engine to give the most accurate help. FOR FREE! Please be kind to those who wish to save you a trip to a retail repair shop. (and $$$)

    Oil filter

The minimum wage guy is under pressure to get the customer out as quick as possible, good job be damned, and strip the plug? No problem, they have a tray of oversize plugs to self-thread into that stripped out hole! That just takes a minute or so and no one is the wiser. (usually!) Worse case...

    Oil filter

Speedy oil change places clued me in on that practice, as they strip out so many drain plugs, they need a way to put in a self-threading oversize plug, WITHOUT loosing a drop of the new oil!

I,too, would to have that information to better tailor my information offered, as the mower may be a totally different machine that I'm guessing it is. Then I'd defer to someone better versed on that particular machine. We all love to help, but the OP has to help US,too.

Uh Oddjob, "remove the transmission cover and inspect the gears"? Did you open the chain case, perhaps? Not a good idea to open that 'banjo' looking chain case if one isn't well-versed on Snapper drivetrains. Nothing I can think of in the chain case that would change ground speed. Just politely...

Briggs engine will not fire up on LA115

"thumb" typing and texting are the ruination of proper grammar and spelling. As long as 'they' can understand one another, that's all that matters. It seems being educated doesn't always work! Cursive? Yeah, right! :)

Okay, this is going to be weird. Rear-engine goes too fast.

First off, just what mower do you have? Did I miss that info, perhaps? But on with the show! Disregard anyone's advice about 'gears. If what you have is the classic Snapper Rear Engine Rider, RER for short, the only gears in it are the sun gears inside the chaincase.not changeable. If you have...

Snapper series 6 Briggs model 191707 type 251501 Having trouble removing drive pulley .

Rustoleum Professional Safety Red is what I use on my Snappers with good results. I prefer the quart cans of it, using it with a Harbor Freight cheap HVLP gun.Their cheapest guns spray as good as their more expensive ones. I don't like the spray head on the spray cans, but it is a handier way...

Snapper series 6 Briggs model 191707 type 251501 Having trouble removing drive pulley .

I have a couple of these RER Snappers and have owned several more. I have fixed just about anything that can or could go wrong with these great rider mowers. The OP had me a bit confused about a 'drive pulley' as there isn't a drive pulley on a RER Snapper. Drive plate maybe. Or bladedrive...
