I have the same problem each year with my 20 year old Cub Cadet 42” riding mower. I use a jump starter to get it going after it sits for a while. Walmart sells one for $27.27.

I had a similar problem with my Cub Cadet riding mower with a Kohler 20hp. It turned out there was a crack in the crank case leaking oil. I bought a new short block engine on Amazon for a lot less than any where else and that solved my problem completely.

I have been using sockets on autos for many years and have never broken a socket; impact sockets are for specific applications like wheels with an impact wrench only.

I agree with the above and would add taking a small piece of 2”x4” to block the blades while you are working on removing bolts on the blades.

There is probably no oil in the filter unless you filled it before you put it on the engine. That is probably the difference.

Have you checked the cylinder compression? You might need a new shot block and/or cylinder head with new valves. That is what I had to do to revive my 2007 riding mower. It made all the difference.
