If you have not done so, you may want to clean the battery negative connection to the frame. I have seen those rusty or mostly painted so the only electrical contact is a few threads from the cable bolt.

My opinion: I live in central Texas where the climate sounds similar. I use 10W-30 Racing Oil (higher zinc) in my non-filter (splash lube) engines and 15W-40 Racing Oil in my filtered (oil pump) engines. These give higher HTHS test results and there is no catalytic convertor to protect. The...
