    Backfiring through the exhaust

All you did was supply 12V and ground to each of the coil's terminals. Series, parallel, whatever.....makes no difference as far as I know. Each gets 12V and ground on the correct terminal. The reluctor wheel's magnet on the crankshaft triggers a Hall effect transistor in the "ignition module"...

    Backfiring through the exhaust

So...on an Onan two cylinder opposed, is there but one coil for both since both would fire at the same time. The only way for plugs to be in series would be on the opposed cylinder models. But looking at the diagram from post 62 shows the outputs to be in parallel, not series. Any V...

As was stated earlier, better to remove plug, insert into plug cap, and ground the plug to discharge energy via spark.

See post #21. As I mention there, it's not entirely intuitive as most forum software just has a CANCEL button right next to the POST REPLY that takes care of the issue. The solution is already posted to the Community section. Cheers!

    Backfiring through the exhaust

Grab the cap and pull it off...won't get shocked unless you want to stick your finger in the end...🤔 The voltage isn't enough to each around the insulated cap. Many of the really old cables just had a bare metal clip that attached to the plug. If you have that I'd be surprised. However, in...

    Replacing armature on kohler starter

Do this.....get a sheet and a flashlight.....sit under the sheet on a solid floor because those springs will launch to God knows where sometimes. Backfiring through the exhaust

Ignore the bad spark tester, good spark tester argument for the moment. While running pull the plug cap off one plug and note how it runs. Replace it and pull the other one. If there is a coil failing one of the two will cause a really rough running, skipping engine and the other might not (rare...

No, I know you're not...this software is counter intuitive to any other I've encountered. When you hit REPLY to a post, does it not bring up the greyed out original post as "quoted text" and allow you to "associate" your reply with that? Yes it does. But if you change your mind there is no way...

It's solved. A counter intuitive way to do things....when you hit REPLY then change your mind you have to POST REPLY anyway. There is no other option. Then the posted reply has the DELETE option that kills the post. My guess is the programmer already had the post number (in the upper right of...

Yes....you can do that but the original quoted message still remains on the screen and cannot be dismissed. Briggs & Stratton OHV Plastic Engine No Compression

Methanol burns about two times slower and only has 9500btu/lb compared to 18,400btu per pound for gasoline. My guess is these were not blown or turbocharged so there is no way you could get the power you claim unless you burned 3 times the amount of methanol compared to gasoline. And...the...

Briggs & Stratton OHV Plastic Engine No Compression

Lapping does not increase compression. Will not remove pits, not used for removing carbon, and has zero effect on performance. There are tons of marketing ads pushing this crap and it's all a lie. The only value of lapping is to verify correct contact location of the seat on the valve and the...

Precisely the behavior of my engine. Thought at first it was fuel pump related but no....ignition. Pulling cylinder 1 plug cap resulted in a very rough running engine. Using cheap bulk pack fuses and the headaches they cause.

    Kawasaki FD731V AS09 ignition/coils testing question

Yes...there are two transistors in each coil and they can and do fail. Every revolution of the engine creates a spark. At 3300RPM that's 55 sparks a second. The high heat environment doesn't bode well for long life.

FD731V and other Kawasaki twin cylinders

This is not a plea for help as it has been fixed, just a heads up on cause and effect. The ignition coils on these engines are different from the #1 and #2 side with different part numbers and have a pair of transistors inside the units that control primary winding charging and field collapse...
