Trying to decide between two used Kubota’s

You've had bad luck with John Deere, so you are looking at two non-running Kubotas. Personally, I think your luck would improve a lot if you sucked it up and paid for a good running machine with lower hours.

Riding Mower Needed for Imperfect Terrain and Not-So-Do-It-Yourselfer

With the possible exception of flat tires, user error has caused every single one of my mower breakdowns. I didn't understand the capabilities of the machine and did something that it couldn't handle. If your yard is really beating the daylights out of every mower you throw at it, it may be...

Riding Mower Needed for Imperfect Terrain and Not-So-Do-It-Yourselfer

I wouldn't be so shy about the weed killer, either. Most of the products they sell to consumers are engineered via concentration or dispenser or whatever to be reasonably safe to use. I kill weeds with a Home Depot spray bottle that I point at each individual weed, so it is very possible to be...

Riding Mower Needed for Imperfect Terrain and Not-So-Do-It-Yourselfer

In a remarkable feat of nature, oak trees literally engage in "chemical warfare" against the grass around them with which they compete. Each fall, oak trees drop leaves on the soil all around their root system heavily laden with tannins that leach into the soil and make a hostile environment...

Riding Mower Needed for Imperfect Terrain and Not-So-Do-It-Yourselfer

Welcome to the forum. Lacking any pictures, it is hard to provide specific recommendations. Any mower could pull the garbage. You could even get a can with wheels in lieu of a trailer You say that you've worked for twenty years to get the property the way you want it. Yet there are trees...

    New seat kills motor.

My apologies for suggesting Googling a wiring diagram. I could not find it. I would be very wary of tampering with any safety interlock that has four wires to a simple switch. As we all know, a switch doesn't need four wires. That suggests to me that the interlock has been engineered to...

    New seat kills motor.

Another route beside the multitester route is googling the wiring diagram

    Need starter.

There is a shop by me that rebuilds starters and alternators. They do mostly heavier trucks and equipment because rebuilt automotive starters are already widely available. I did have them rebuild a car starter once. If you have the old part, it may be possible to get it fixed by going that route.

Would like your input on what mower to buy

I'll side with Slomo on this one. He talked about mowing with machines - not trained herds of goats. He wasn't factually wrong. He wasn't overtly rude. He was humorous. He backed his idea with various legitimate reasons. He added a new dimension to the conversation. He made me think about it.

Brand new yard maintenance help/advice at my new house.

Your phrase "we will be getting Bermuda grass sod laid down" implies to me that someone else is doing the work. If this is true, the only things you need to do are make sure you are picking a good installer and then watering enough. Installing sod is kind of like painting where the preparation...

    Buying a first mower. Suggestions

Quality stuff I could pass on to my kid's kids that they probably don't want: SAE sockets 10 speed bike SLR 35mm film cameras Cuff links Feather pillow Cast iron skillets Atlas and dictionary Most of the time, if your kids even want your crap, by the time you're done with it they've bought...

    My Mower Story

The purchase of the three identical mowers at one church had to do with two employees who didn't get along and blamed each other for broken belts, spindles, etc. when they shared the first machine. I agree that buying more than one of something has a lot of advantages - much more than common...

    My Mower Story

I just bought my first riding mower. I don't really need a riding mower. My intention is to use it to mow two empty lots on my street that the town does mow, but sometimes not very frequently. My own lot is 80x100' and so far I've been happy with my 22" Toro. The machine is a Husqvarna...

    Buying a first mower. Suggestions

For really tiny yards: 1. There's always the push reel mower. No joke. 2. I would consider a new battery mower by Dewalt. Their 20/60v battery system fits dozens of things that you might use around your new house from cordless drills to lights, chainsaws, blowers, hedge trimmers, string...

Inner City Home Depot Scratch and Dent Equipment

The name of the post really says it all. I work in an urban area but commute from the suburbs. I find unbelievably good deals on scratch and dent lawn/garden equipment at a Home Depot near my job. I assume most of the shoppers there don't have lawns or extra money. Granted, its Home Depot...
