My unit is in good shape blade wise and the deck being level. I run the engine wide open when mowing. What pointed me to a possible spindle problem is the fact that just the right side seems to not being cut well.

Thanks for the reply, my deck was very clean underneath and the blades look real good(they were new this year). Last time I replaced the spindles, they were complete assemblies with the jackshafts installed. Do the jackshafts simply pull out of the housings for inspection/cleaning?

Hi, I've noticed the cut quality of the right side of my 42" mower deck has declined recently. I raised the mower on the lift and neither blade spins super smooth with the right blade being the worst. I put replacement jackshafts and housings on it about 7 yrs ago. Might be time to do it again...

10-4! I have a manual choke knob on my 22 yr old Murray with a 17hp BS Twin 2 and its worked perfect every time since new! I've got a Cub GX50 also, I'll keep your experience in mind. Thanks.

Are you sure you're pushing the throttle control well into the choke zone before starting? I have a Cub with the 25hp K745 7000 series Kohler and this engine seems pretty picky about being choked properly when cold. Throttle lever goes all the way to the detent, then push a little harder to...

I've got a CC XT1 GT50 and my NOCO boost box will hook up with the seat down. My battery is dated NOV 19, so 3 1/2 yrs old and still tests like new. It's the OE factory battery. I usually charge it once or twice during the winter down time. Its a 230cca battery on a Kohler 25hp engine.

Brought the Cub over to my house today to examine its problem and clean it good with compressed air. 1) Battery tested 232cca, 12.69v, full charge. 2) Followed the cable from the starter into the wire loom headed towards the back of the mower(looking for the solenoid). Pulled the mower deck...

With 4 auto/truck batteries, 2 lawn tractors and a motorcycle in the family I invested in a Foxwell BT-100 battery tester. It will show state of charge and perform a cca test and tell you when its time to replace an old or suspect battery. Well worth the $30 or so.

I'm changing out the starter, what is the torque spec for its mounting bolts? Edit: I found the service manual online for the 7000 series Kohler, its 211 in. lbs. for starter mounting "screws" if anyone else wants to know.

I mow the Bermuda every 4-5 days during the growing season, always mulch. Mow in late afternoon/early evening when grass is completely dry.

Looks like my 24yo Murray may be giving up the ghost soon so looking to replace it. I need to stay with a 42 inch deck, that size works well on my yard and any bigger won't fit in the storage shed anyway. Which models cut the best? I have hybrid Bermuda in front and tall fescue in the back...
