I did make sure to clean it and I made sure it moved freely, BUT I never thought to apply power and check it, or even check to make sure I have power coming to it once it's on the mower. That's going to be the next item on my checklist! Thank You!

If it's blowing the fuse pretty much instantly, my guess would be you have a short to ground somewhere. I would try physically tracing all the wiring from the switch to make sure something hasn't rubbed through a wire, or mice haven't gotten in there and chewed on some of the wires.
