Don't really think I will be of much if any help, but my Troy built 42 " did the same. Number 40 on your list said belts new or good. I replaced the belt on it and seems to have corrected the problem. Belt was good but stretched.

I too have a few " easy start items" that act the same way. Thanks for the advice. I am 80 and still pull like I did 20 years ago. I have noticed that I have better luck starting like you suggested. Thank you so much. So, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Try brake fluid. Hit it with hammer, more brake fluid then let set for a day. Might work.
