I had a similar issue. Mine was cutting off when I pressed the accelerator pedal. It ran at a low speed and cut the grass, as long as I didn't press the accelerator pedal. Once I did, it sputtered and died. I changed the fuel and air filters, and checked the carburetor linkage, with no success...
