Briggs blowing oil out crankcase vent

If this forum would let me post pictures I'd show my frankenstein engine to you. I click the paper clip and it shows me pictures that I've posted in the past. To attach the carb I used a 90* elbow. I had to rotate the carb 90*. To do that I took a piece of 1/2 inch steel and mounted it to the...

Briggs blowing oil out crankcase vent

Yesterday I topped off the oil and started it up and it ran fine and didn't puke any oil at all. The vent is a large hose about 1/2 inch and it has just a puff of air cycling out. I had a copper pipe stuck in the hose and routed to the carb. I found it laying out where the oil came out about a...

2 stroke longevity - how many hours

I was curious about how you determine what ratio to use in various piece of equipment. You mentioned 100, 80 and 66 to one

2 stroke longevity - how many hours

That would be a little too big and heavy for a lawn mower. I put a 3-71 Detroit in a chevy crewcab and it was very heavy in the front. Later I swapped in a 4-53T with a 5 speed and 3 speed auxilary. Currently I'm running an F150 with a 4BT Cummin and that is perfect.

Briggs blowing oil out crankcase vent

Thanks for the informative replies gentlemen. I have another engine I'll use till I get this one torn apart and fixed. It makes sense to me that you are probably right that it has a broken ring.

Storing a mower with no gas

Same here, that's all I use too. When I'm done for the season I start it up and close off the fuel line and when it starts to run out of gas I close the choke and that draws even more gas out of the bowl. I have never had a problem starting any of my stuff in the spring.

Briggs blowing oil out crankcase vent

I made a log splitter back in the 1990's and it has an old 11HP Briggs with a 16HP V twin carb on it. I bought the engine without a carb and used what I had. It has run for years with no problems till today. The crankcase vent isn't attached to the card and when I finished splitting wood today I...

    Briggs 11HP synchro-balanced engine has a knock

I built this log splitter about 25 years ago and it has split may tons of wood during that time. I changed the oil about a month ago and a few days ago I started it and it had a knock. I've started it several times and it knocks every time. The engine numbers are 252417 5526 01 and I assume this...

yardman rider shutting down when blades engaged

If the parking brake wasn't the problem it could be the safety switch on the mower deck has malfunctioned.

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

I have never used any fuel additive and have never had any problems starting in the spring. I shut the fuel off and run the engine till it starts to die out then I apply the choke and let it run till it dies and that probably gets all of the gas out of the bowl. I have unplugged a lot of...

    Broken frame

Whether you weld it or plate it you are going to have to take some stuff off in order to get to the break. In my opinion I don't think a one inch strip of metal on each side of the break would be enough. You would have to use some small bolts and I don't think they could handle the pounding of...

    Rear Tire Change

If the hole is 7/16 of an inch or smaller you can use a plug-n-patch. It's a patch with a stem on it. You have to take the tire off and you pull the plug thru the hole then the patch attaches to the inside of the tire. Being a lawn mower tire the hole could be bigger than 7/16 because you only...

    Honda EM2500 generator

I'd say your needle valve isn't closing. The float could be full of gas or have a hole in it or stuck and it could be that something is between the seat and the needle valve. Was there a lot of crap in the bowl when you took it off and cleaned it?

Vintage Briggs - Need help with points and ignition coil

I had an engine with a bad coil and found one that fit but was originally matched to a smaller flywheel. I put it on and it ran. I never did put it to use so I don't know how long it would last.
