Wide mower with multiple blades not cutting properly

Have you verified this has a good deck drive belt tension and it is the correct belt? A wrong belt will sit too deep in the pulley grooves and slip especially when under load and cutting. I have seen many belts slip before and never make any noise.
Whats the best way to test the tension?
Ive read thst the multi blade system was only used to a few years because it’s so crap. Apparently it needs to be run at high RPM at slow ground speed which is just wasting fuel. I have ordered the spindle attachment previously mentioned and I’ll see how that goes with a single blade. But yes, correct about tension is also important.

Check the belt tension by pressing on the belt with your fingers at the longest point in between spindles. Unfortunately, without experience, it is difficult to determine good belt tension.

Does this deck assembly look similar to what your deck looks like?

ok. The deck looks a bit different than your diagram
I managed to install a normal blade but its still not cutting well. The belt is definitely slipping because i smell burning rubber. I suspect the blade brake is slso on when its not supposed to be. There was a loose spring which i attached to the nearest bolt. I think its got something to do with the blade brake. I am attaching photos below.

That spring apparently has to do with the blade brake release mechanism that is on the pulley. Without the machine running, try to engage the deck lever and see if the brake moves away from the blade/ belt drive pulley.

ill check that in the morning. I do know that, in the lowered position, it is possible to grab the two sides of the belt and force them closer together by hand. when i do so, the deck moves rearwards, is that correct?

I recommend you study what tensions the deck belt. Does the whole deck shift back and forth to tension the belt? I'm not familiar with any that do that, but engineers can be creative.
