While mowing with our ZD28, it has started stopping intermittently, like the safety 'stop' is engaging. The motor shuts down just like if you stood up off the seat, then starts going again just prior to full stoppage. I tried the search for this, but couldn't find the key words that worked. Mower has 500 hours on it. Thanks, in advance.

It will be either a safety switch or the wiring between them.
Start with cleaning around the fins & check the kill wire for shorting to the engine.
Things crawl under the blower housing over winter & take delight in munching on the wires.

Next common culprit is the seat switch with 500 hours on your mower, the plunger or the bit the plunger presses on could be worn just enough to allow the switch to activate when pressure on the seat is relieved.
A small self tapper screwed into the plunger face usually fixes this. or a bit of padding on the contact face.
Also the wires that go to the seat switch are prone to wearing through & getting pinched by the seat hinges.
