Windows 8

Well the old Dell is about 5 years old and I was getting very conformable with the windows 7. But for some reason I got a virus and with two trips to the repair shop and 300 hundred poorer I gave it up. I just got my new Dell but it has a new operating system on it called windows 8. Has any body got this new system and if so what do you think of it? I have only had mine for one day now and I really think I am going to like it a lot better then the windows 7. Every thing just seems so much faster and everything just seems a lot more handier.

I bought a new HP 23" touchscreen running Windows 8, and love it. Takes some getting used to, learn something new every time I use it. Seems strange when I use my laptop w/ Windows 7.

A complete format and reload would have fixed it. You could have loaded Window 8!

It is faster with better safe guards. I use AVG anti-virus. It seems to be designed run all the time.

I have a thinkpad with this OS installed..at first I kinda didn't like it but now I've warmed up to it..it was mainly designed for tabs etc. but it does run faster IMO than Win 7. Takes some getting used to but I dig it now. My laptop isn't touch screen and I think Win 8 is alot cooler to use with one. My G/F has one and it is sweet to use. Tech is evolving so have to run with it...like it or not...ain't no going back

When it comes to mechanic work I can hold my own. When it come to computers I am lost so I am at the mercy of the repair shop. I just should of bought the new computer when I got the virus but didn't know any better. I am finding I like this windows 8 the more I use it. I got the book windows 8 for dummies.

I just use my phone it can do everything a laptop can do plus make phone calls. I can be at a job and print something at home. Can take debt card payments. I don't miss a pc at all.

I know what you are saying because my grand children use phones for everything. I guess I am a lot more comfortable with my laptop. I am surprised at how many people I talk to my age that don't even know how to turn a computer on.

My dad has no clue what a computer even does and he is only 68.

I remember getting excited over the cordless phone. And now we can do anything from our phones.

I am going to get a nanny cam I can watch on my phone when I am out working I have two teenagers at home.

Yeah, the technology revolution sometimes leaves us in it's dust. I'm still hanging on to a Compaq Presario desktop at home with 4Gigs of memory and running Windows XP 2005 Media Center Edition O/S. Wife & I bought ourselves an iPad for Christmas year before last(to use when we go RV'ing because it's so small and portable). After all the 99 cent apps I've purchased from the iTunes store for it that run circles around any Windows-based software(and has FREE updates to all software forever) I've decided when the desktop finally dies I'm gonna invest in a Macintosh/Apple computer. I'm sick of the Windows crashes, software that's flaky(and expensive) and the higher cost of the MAC will pay off in the long run. It's tooo easy to become a PICNIC on a Windows machine(Problem In Chair Not In Computer:0)

I run a computer repair shop. I hear all the time people complaining about windows. Believe me apple has their share of issues too. Repair parts are a ripoff. I had to put a logic board in a macbook pro. The board cost me $750 out of my pocket. And that was for a refurb. Pure freaking ripoff. They hold up no better than a higher quality windows machine. And its not just motherboards. You pay for the name. I see more than my share of mac kernel panics( their version of the windows blue screen of death) the mac spinning beach ball, freezes, lockups etc. So don't be fooled into a false security with a mac they do have issues.

Another sleazy tactic of apple. The ipads, iphones ipods ( and macs, although their lifespan is a bit longer) become obsolete after 3 to 4years. With each ios update your device is getting put to the grave that much earlier. They force the app developers to not support the older hardware. Most of these apps will run fine on older hardware but this is how apple keeps you pumping money into their greedy fists. Keep you buying newer products. I see some really older windows machines running newer software. Slowly but it does work. It should be the consumers choice if they want to install a newer app or software on older hardware.

Another thing i always hear, well macs dont get a virus. Well they do get infected and thats already proven. Microsoft windows has 98% of the operating system market worldwide. So if you are a malware, virus coder i know which one im going after. Theres not enough macs being used to justify the time wasted to write a virus and receive a return investment. Steve jobs knew it was unwise to promote a mac as not being able to be be infected thats why he never would say it publicly. He knew it would only be a matter of time.

Im not a huge fan of windows 8. The metro touch screen is great on a tablet. On a desktop the lack of a start menu was just plain stupid on Microsoft's part. Fortunately you can bring the start menu back with a $5 program. Once installed it feels just like windows 7 again. I would not use a win8 non touch lappy or desktop without it.
