Before starting my mower today, I spilled quite a bit of gasoline on the engine. When I started it, white smoke started coming out of what I think is the carburetor. Last week, it ran fine. I did turn the mower on it’s side to clean the blade after using it last week. Is the smoke from the burning gas?

That's the muffler...white smoke indicates oil burning. Likely from when you tipped the mower over. Check the oil level, be sure it's not too high or too low. If that's good, let it burn off.
