Customer brings in a troy bilt tuffy tiller with 4 hp Briggs. The usual, won't start and only runs on starter fluid. So i toss the carb in the ultrasonic and then installed new fuel pump diaphragm and tank gasket. Aaaaaaaand the same problem. Seems the fuel cup never filled. Changed the spring, cup and diaphragm again. Still won't pump fuel. Do leakdown test. Less than 10%. After having the tank and carb off about a dozen times finally figured out when carb is tightened to tank the pickup tube gets pressed to bottom of tank and seals it off. File a nice groove in the bottom of the pickup tube and runs like new. Never seen that one before.

I have come across that issue twice over the years.

I hope it didn't take you as long the first time as it did me today.
In both cases it was due to the plastic suction tube being replaced that connects to the brass tube from the bottom of the carb.

As far as i culd tell it was the original plastic pickup.
