I purchased a one of thes last fall, model #34089 with the Briggs 8.5hp motor. Everything operated when I put it away at the end of the season except the engine would surge when taken off choke. Figured the carb probably needed to be rebuilt. Took the carb off a 12hp Briggs engine and replaced the one on the Troy bilt. Don’t think this has anything to do with what is happening with the mower but thought I should mention it. Okay now what my problem is. the minute I put the mower in gear it takes off without depressing the leaver on the handgrip. I’ve replaced the belt, the old one was in bad shape, and tried adjusting the rod. Neither has helped. Any suggestions what to check.
