I installed The Tecumseh oem solid state coil . It cost 42.95. I also put dipstick "o" ring and a muffler bolt.

Primed it and "ONE PULL" it started an ran.

Now in this process, I cleaned this thing over which hasnt been done in years.

I ran the mower for about 5 minutes while testing the throttle, the brake, and the self propel drive gears.

Gears worked ok, throttle seemed ok but when I lowered the engine speed, it seemed to "miss" a bit.

It also seems "loud" . So I am not 100% sure if its normal or not since it was loud before the coil issue.

After running it. I shut it down and looked it over. It seemed REALLY Hot for 5 minutes of running but then again, I never really messed it with much after cutting before to really notice since I just pushed it back in storage after cutting. so maybe its normal.

What i DID notice was a but if oil around the muffler area on the deck. Not a lot but a bit.

The muffler does not have a gasket on it and in looking at the engine diagrams for parts, it doesnt seem to show one.

I dont want to put too much money into a 26 yr old mower but since the fiberglass deck is in great shape and the controlls and wheels are also pretty darn good shape, It seemed worth getting it goiing.

I am not sure what to do next. Any Ideas???

If going from points to the electronic module, you need to change the flywheel key also, because the electronic module requires a different offset of the key.

I dont believe this has "points" but I could be mistaken. I removed the original coil and replaced it with Oem same thing. They refer to it on the parts list as "solid state assembly" . I have a tecumseh engine tvs100-44013B

When you originally posted I didn't know your model number, as made the assumption when you said that you installed the oem solid state module, that you were converting from points to electronic. You model has the factory solid state module, so disregard my original post.

Thanks for the input. I have decided at this late stage in life to learn some things I have often said I want to learn and working on my own small engine equipement is one of the things I am trying.

Im not sure but it seems when I have the mower on mulch that it doesnt seem to have as much power as a new mower.

Is there any way to check that ? I was readong something about compression check but not sure if I would need special gauges to check that.

I plan on trying this mower on a more agressive terrain ( currently it is completely flat and only about 100x30) The new yard will have small hill in front and back so I will be needing the self propell ingaged and about 3 times as much yard. Id like to check this machine out before putting it under the heavier load. If it isnt up to the task, I can reserve this machine for easier tasks. ( its 26 yrs old but as noted above didnt have many hrs on it.) But I didnt take care of it much.....
