I needed another mower to add to our business last summer. I have been a die hard Kubota man. I was not interested in anything else. The dealer offered me a Scag to demonstrate. Told me to load it on the trailer and run it a week. I picked it up and ran it.

Needless to day I bought one and absolutely love it. It now has over 250 hours one it and has not had a wrench put on it other than service and changing blades. We run many times under brutal conditions and as things stand right now I will not buy anything else. If I could trade my ZD 326 Kubota off without loosing my shirt on the deal I would get rid of it today and buy another Tiger Cat no questions asked.

The one I have is the 52" deck and 22 hp Kawasaki motor. It will cut bahia grass cleaner than the Kubotas ever thought about cutting.

Good to know. I love SCAG. Expensive around here tho.

I've read that the Tiger Cat hydros work a little too hard and loose some power over time. I have no clue if this is true or not. How do yours feel?

So now instead of being a die hard Kubota man you are now just a fan of any orange colored mower. Seems like the Scag has treated you well.

The Scag Tiger Cub/Tiger Cat line of machines has proven to be very successful over the years. I haven't heard any operators of these machines comment negatively about the hydraulic drive systems on these machines. As with any hydraulic system, there are occasional component failures. Proper maintenance of hydraulic systems and components generally provides longer life.
I prefer machines with pumps and wheel motors verses hydrostatic drive units, although hydrostatic drive units are constantly improving as time passes.
My 2008 Tiger Cub now has about 700 hours, most of these hours with the collection system operating.

The 326 Kubota weighs in at like 1800#'s and the Tiger Cat if memory serves me correctly about 1100#'s. The Tiger cat is defiantly more maneuverable. Although not faster as far as ground speed but it is very much more responsive. The biggie deciding factor for me though is that we live in Lower Alabama and most yards here have Bahia grass on them. The yards are larger many times and they are almost with few exceptions two week cuts. The Tiger Cat will cut Bahia Grass smooth in one pass at a good ground speed. However the Kubota mowers normally take two passes to get the same results. We have tried various blades on the 326 Kubota. We also have a ZG222 Kubota with a 48" deck and it is the same way as the 326. The 222 weighs in at like 800#'s.

Hauling the 326 as heavy as it is and loading and unloading it many times a day gives a trailer a pounding. We are at about 675 hours on the 326. Around 450 or so on the 222 and already over the 250 mark on the Scag.

I am sure that there are other brands that might cut the Bahia like the Scag but the local dealers here do not sell anything I see I want to demonstrate. The dealer here we work with sells both Kubota and Scag. If we went else where it would be a 30 to 40 mile drive one way. We drive past the dealer we use daily. They are also the Echo Dealer as well and provide great service on their equipment.
