I was not at home and my son was doing the trimming when he said the engine started racing then the rpm's went way down and it was barely running so he stopped it. Near as I can tell a spring/springs got caught on one of the branches of a bush. After searching the bushes and using a metal detector we could not find a thing. There is one small spring that is still connected to a rod that runs from the butterfly, and I believe, to the governor. How do I find out what spring/springs I need and where they go? This is a Bolens/Troy-Bilt with a Briggs and Stratton 500 Series 5.00 there is a barcode on the engine, 0710265191029. The mower is model 11A-74E065 183617 serial # 1L037K20372. Any ideas? Thanks, Robert.

TRY Sections 4 and 5 of this manual ... I HOPE this pertains to your engine .......... Boobala

http://www.ccdist.com/_serviceManuals/briggs/276781.pdf

click on the above link ..... when page appears, move your pointer down the page, and click on the ADOBE symbol ( looks like a propellor) to open the pdf

Also .....You'll need the engine model # to order parts ( Usually found on the shroud or a sticky label of the engine )

Hi guys, with your help I found the model number, type and code for my engine. I now know what spring I need. Thanks Boobala, the link you provided does not list my engine. I did look at all the ones listed but none of the carbs look like mine. I need to know where the spring goes when I get it. Model 10T502, Type 0457 B1 and Code 07102551. Thanks to all.

Boobala, thanks for searching for a drawing. I checked both links and still nothing like what I have. Must be a one year only model. I guess I will try hit and miss. There can't be that many places the spring will connect.
Thanks again, Robert.
