I have an older Snapper Comet Tecumseh engine. I think the fault is with the carburetor. It have been adjusted every which way and trying to get it back to workable condition. after 30 years I sill don't have the concept of carburetors. it's more than just gas and air. Sorry for bad nomenclature. So to date. I took off carburetor and cleaned it. It looked cleaned anyhow. I adjusted the float so tab pushes needle in when float is in line with carburetor body. I cleaned idle mixture screw which is automatic and requires no adjustment. Correct me if I am wrong. There is no spring with it. It has hole down the shaft of screw and across the shaft of screw. I cleaned the bowl screw. even the small hole. Since I have had the riding mower you always had to be in starting position with choke open I believe. Then you could move it to high. Never would it run on turtle. Out of the blue the governed seems to take over and pull butterfly closed (i think, could be open)and engine stalls. If cheat and put something in way to prevent that it is OK for awhile. It never starts on first pull any many time I have to pull plug and put gas in hole to get it to start. After cleaning and some adjusting engine seems stronger but runs smooth but high rpm. Then it will go slow and bog down. If i make any adjustments on throttle other than start position I stops. I can go to rabbit barely but have to go back to start if rpms go down. I have tried adjusting choke and air mixture linkages but no help. Even moved the part that the air mixture linkage hooks to the governor. Any small hole i missed? Any thought s, tahnks.
