I had the good fortune, maybe the misfortune, to acquire a Troybilt sickle mower. Actually looks new. Story is it was purchased and never used and left in a shed for years. Story does match appearance of the unit related to paint finish throughout, all labels and decals, tires, cables, filter, sickle bar condition and so on - all looking new. First issue though is the primer bulb is not in new condition and was damaged - but the primer bulb does look new other than the tear. Reportedly it was accidentally jammed into and was ruptured by an object and torn. I have been looking for a replacement primer bulb or unit assembly with primer bulb without success or even coming up with a substitute replacement. The engine is a Tecumseh quiet premier 3.5hp. I cannot find any numbers of the engine, but there is one sticker on it that looks brand new but relates only to safety operation issues. Nothing stamped on the block that I can find. The Troybilt sickle bar unit is MN 34307 with SN 343070100895 but in keying the numbers in nothing is recognized by Tecumseh or any service supplying parts. I see a lot of primer bulbs for sale but if one matches there is no indication of that by number model, etc. Any idea of where to find a primer bulb that is a match to get the unit going?

The model and spec numbers are probably stamped on the shroud, just above the spark plug or on the side. With those numbers we will be able to identify the primer bulb you need and a service manual for the engine. If you end up not being able to find the numbers, take a few pictures of your engine and carb, and post them. If you use your phone to take the pictures, you’ll have to down size them before posting.
