The starter on. My toro time cutter with 24.5 hp commercial engine periodically fails to engage the flywheel. After some hard taps on the side of the starter it will finally engage and start. It works fine for a while and then again one day it fails to engage again. What might be causing this. Can it be repaired or am I just going to have to replace it?

Banging on a starter is not a good idea, you can do more harm than good. Might have to replace the starter. If you have a tech in your area, you could have him check it out, but if it’s bad you’ll have to pay for both for both check out and new starter.
