starter gear

I have a 1998 yard machine model 13am675g062,chews up starter gears about as fast as I put them on.H ave changed the bendix spring swaped out fly wheel with another one just like it,does the same thing ,fly wheel has alumenum ring gear,calls for 16 tooth plastic starter gear.dont know what else to try .flywheel teeth are good.

Can you give us the model number information of the engine so we can see which brand, and style of engine that you are working on. Are you sure that you have the aluminum ring gear and not the steel. The parts diagram that I looked at showed the replacement aluminum ring gear, but when I look at complete flywheels they only show the steel ring gear flywheel.

yes,The engine is a opposed 17hp briggs.CAN GET MODEL # TO MORROW.

Do not use cheap aftermarket junk, get a real Briggs gear.

model #42a707 opposed twin cyl.I think I WILL ORDER THE GEAR OEM BRIGGS. I BOUGHT THE ONES I HAD OFF EBAY. tHANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR HELP

Fixed ended up buying new starter could not fix the old one no matter what I TRYED.Should halve done that to start with.
