spotted 1954 buttercup

was looking for my dog this morning and spotted a neighbor mowing his lawn with a buttercup.had to stop and take pics He told me he was the original owner bought it new in 54 and has been his only mower no he wont sell or trade mower was all original including the wheels.The hole in the deck in pic 2 was from hitting a golfball here are the pics.

Since he's the original owner, it would be interesting to know what brand of oil he has been using all these years.

That's cool, 1954, 60 years old and still on the job. Dang thats a good mower.

I will ask him.That thing ran great and did not smoke.He did say he could not find a 17 inch blade anybody know where to get them?

It's pretty amazing that you were just walking down the street and you spotted a 1954 Buttercup -- in use by the original owner for 60 years.

I never see any two-cycle Lawn-Boys unless I go and find them.

A 17-inch blade? Never knew that existed. Can't he just keep sharpening and balancing the one he has?

I guess you cant sharpen and balance forever.I may have to cut one down for him.maybe he will leave it to me.He is quite fond of this mower as I was of my 7077 which helped me through school.his mower had an easy life.Mine was worked to death cutting vacant lots

I have an old flymo I found in the trash...I will measure the blade when I get a chance...may work.

I wonder if it was originally an eighteen inch blade that's worn down?? If it was an eighteen inch I may have an option.....

worn down a whole inch?I was thinking I could cut an 18" down to 17" but have never done it.Did they even make a 17" blade ?
