Spark Arrestor Screen

I have a Stihl RS56RC trimmer that I acquired. I noticed that the spark arrestor screen is missing. Is it needed?

No not needed unless you are running in an area with a high fire risk, or on US Forest Service property. It can be a pain sometimes because they carbon up, but they also keep the dirt dauber from sealing the muffler solid as opposed to just filling the round outlet hole on the mufflers with that outlet.
