I just got a Lawn Boy 10247 and I don't have a bag for it. I was wondering if you guys prefer the side bag or rear bag, and what are the pros and cons of each. I'm new to lawn boy, and this is my only mower right now, so let me know what you think. And I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, this is my first post on the forum.
Thanks,
Paul

Get the rear bag. Holds more and it maneuvers around trees and plants much better.

well I prefer the side bag and keep two extras as they fill up I pop one off and replace it with an empty one when all three are full I shut off the mower and empty the bags on a tarp and pull it to the curb when its leaves.for grass I dump them into a trash receptacle and haul to the yard waste site.the big advantage is if you strap the starter bail with a bungee or a velcro strap you dont have to turn the mower off when changing bags thus saving time and wear on the recoil.Been doing this for years and still have all my fingers and toes.

I have both. The side bag has a wider opening and will hardly ever clog. If I have clearance and don't need to bag in tight spots, I prefer the side bag. You can use it on dry or wet grass, leaves, etc. It is more versatile than the rear bag in that regard but it is cumbersome. You get a lot more looks from passers by when running a side bag. It looks old school for sure.

The rear bag came in two versions. The earlier one used a similar wide mouth chute to the side bag chute. It protruded out the side very far and the curves back toward the rear. Those are a mess and I would avoid them.

The other version had a much straighter tube and works well but is more prone to clog than the side bag but works a lot better than the old style rear bag.
