Ok, so I have a Snapper rear engine Hi Vac. Think it was made in 1978. Came with an 8hp B&S with a 1"x3-5/32" Shaft.

I bought a mower with a 14 hp B&S model 287707.

Got them both off and the new shaft is thicker. Not a huge problem seeing how I'll be replacing the whole motor, but the single pulley on the Snapper motor is a different diameter and depth on the shaft as both on the 14 hp.

Tell me there's something I can do! :frown:

take the crankshaft to a machine shop and have it turned down.

You should be able to buy a new pulley & Hub, try a place that sells bearing, & belts, you will need to
know the exact size of the shaft & the key way size, it maybe a 2 piece set up, it want be cheap, you might
try Mc Master, they are a big supply house that Has Real Stuff,

Not to sound like an idiot, but what do you mean pulley & hub? The shaft now has two pulleys, I just need one. I'll snap some pics. Im new to working on these things so talk to me like I'm 5. lol

Crap, nevermind. Even if I get the pulley figured out, the shaft is so long it's going to hit other stuff under the motor. Craaaaaaaaaaapppp

If the shaft is to long it may not be to much of a job to cut it to the right length, i have to go right now but i will be back to you in a few hr. to explain what i am talking about with the Pulley & Hub & also about what might be able to be done with the long shaft

You know, I'm looking at it.... and i guess what I've missed is you have your crankshaft coming out the bottom. It's keyed in some way. Then you seem to have this larger diameter shaft connected to it, then the pulleys are on that. Does that sound right?

Now, if I remove all that, leaving just the bottom of the crankshaft, I think I have exactly what I need. I just don't know how to strip that stuff off yet. There's a bolt at the bottom, so that's my first lead, lol

Well looks like you maybe on the right track, I am not looking at what you see, but it sounds right, if there is a bolt in the end of the crankshaft, remove it and see if you can get that piece off, dont bugger up the end of the crankshaft, once you get down to just the CS you may have the same size as the old motor, and maybe the same length, if so you maybe home free, i hope the new motor has the same bolt pattern as the old one, if so & the shafts are the same size, you need th put the old pully on your new to u motor, but sure and set it as close as u can, to the same distance from the face of the mounting plate as it was on the old motor>< Good Luck
