Purchased a new Tiger Cat yesterday from a local dealer and as part of the deal they were to take the regular cushioned seat off my mower and swap it with a suspension seat that was on the mower next to it and deliver it to me today... well called them today to see about what time delivery was going to be and the salesman proceeded to tell me that they had to order me a new seat because the seat from the other mower wouldnt work due to the wiring harness not matching up??? I thought the seat fit all models, cant remember the model it was but it did have a 22hp Kawasaki on it do remember that, it might of been a Freedom Z but not sure...
Was he just blowing me smoke to not have to swap it out?
By the way its a awesome mower, got to mow with it about 2 hrs this evening, mows better the my Hustler Fas trak I had but does ride a little rougher...will be able to tell more after more time on it.

Nice mower!

It will ride better with the better seat. The only wires go into the seat switch, but who knows if the wires are too short, or in fact the plug might be different.

I bet he was told not to remove the other seat as it's worth a lot and he could get a better price for the other rider.

thanks...I figured that might be the case to as right after they told me they would switch it there was a guy looking at the machine with the suspension seat acting real interested....was looking forward to mowing with that nice comfortable seat today, but the seats thats on it is nicer then the one on the Fastrac... hopefully they get it in the next few days..

There are several seat switch configurations. On Tiger Cats, the seat switch is mounted in the metal crossover piece that also has spring pins in it. The metal seat support sits on the spring pins and when someone is on the seat, the metal support will compress the springs and actuate the seat switch.
On Newer Freedom Zs, the seat switch is installed in the seat itself and will actuate with someone sitting on the seat. The machine wiring harnesses are different for the seat switch differences.
The Briggs powered Tiger Cats are the lower end of the Tiger Cat lineup and have some different parts installed on them. It is a price structure situation to cover a broader range of options and machine prices.
My local Scag dealer avoids these situations by stocking just a few Tiger Cat models usually in the upper range and only Kawasaki FX engines. This way they have a definite price differential between model lines making it easier for the customer to make a decision where price is a major concern. They will however special order any available machine configuration that is available from Scag.
I replaced the seat on my 2008 Tiger Cub with a sprung suspension seat last fall that cost me $500. This is not the same seat that Scag offers, but a similar aftermarket version.
My Hustler X-ONE has a internal seat switch with a thick but soft seat bottom.
