Several months ago my dad picked up a G1800 with Hydrostatic trans and 3cyl kubota engine for $100.
Guy thought The head gasket was bad. Water in oil and overheating. But we actually think it was flooded during a rainstorm in 2017 as they lived in low area, and there was debris up underneath the mower.IMG_20191212_115729.jpgIMG_20191212_115752.jpgIMG_20191212_115756.jpgIMG_20191212_115827.jpg
Well after some new 10w30 rotella and cleaning all of the matted grass off of the radiator he's had no problems with it.
The hood hinges broke off at the hood. He built a small frame in the hood and fixed that. New deck rollers, greased everything. Engine starts right up when it's warm, but takes a few seconds when it's cold outside.
trans is in good shape, deck lift works good too.
what would y'all appraise this at?
he is going to get new foot pads and repair the seat cracks.

Replace head gasket, thermostat, antifreeze, oil & filter with Kubota OEM parts. I would first purchase Kubota shop manual.

New 10w30 rotella and cleaning all of the matted grass off of the radiator he's had no problems with it. Not overheating or any water in the oil.
it's been about 3 months of daily running for 20 minutes 1 or 2 times a day.
Even when we got it the oil was a dark amber color but wasn't high on the dipstick ,and not thinned out

From the looks of it, it has not led an easy life.

Did you also change the hydro oil?

you'll put quite a bit into it, so yeah about $100 is all I'd give for it too knowing what I know of it at this point.

IF water was that high, and water's in the oil, you'll want to do a compression check. If they're low, you may have some bent rods. Not uncommon. Easy to work on though. Parts are kinda expensive. Deck gearbox is likely got water in it too. Then there's that front axle pivot...it has a grease fitting that nobody seems to remember, and it becomes stuck, and I mean stuck. Once that happens, figure on replacing the front axle, the pivot pin, shims, bearings, seals, spacer, etc. About $1000 last time I looked. Then the drive shaft between the engine & HST. They almost always need u-joints and sometimes the shaft & front yoke & coupling on the engine.

I have a G1900s, dad has a G1800, my brother has a G1900, mine & dad's is a 54, brothers is a 60". We all love them and they're built like tanks...BUT....as said, if they're broken or need repairs, they're expensive to fix IF you can find parts to fix them with.
