Transaxle mounting screws (2) keep coming loose. These have already been replaced once and now the head has broken off one of them.

The part # 817 00 05-12, pc.#125, Screw 5/16-18 x 3/4. Is this a special material like grade 8? Where would I find these "special " bolts and how do I secure them?

Is there a torque requirement?

The repair manual does not call for a locking device. In the past I have replaced a broken link transfer rod pc.202 because of this problem. This is Not a new machine.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks.

They appear to be a thread forming (self tapping) screw.
I'd try some blue Loctite and see what happens.

Blue not Red Loctite? Also, since the threads have already been "tapped" will another self-tapping screw work again as compared to a say, a 8 bolt?

Thanks,

George

Yes it is a self tapping screw. Yes only Blue Loctite as Red is permanent especially in aluminum. IF hole is worn out then you need to resize for a standard next size screw or Helicoil it and use a standard 5/18-18 x 3/4 grade 5 or grade 8 screw.

IF going to next size then use a M9 or M10 screw depending how bad the hole is worn.
