I have lurked around this site getting tips for some of my small engine woes. I have just registered so feel free to keep me within the rules. If I am out of line I apologize. Now for the problem. It is actually a Robin 5hp engine on my grand-kids go cart. It only runs with choke on and not good then. Any help or direction to the correct source much appreciated. I know this is not your typical "lawn mower", but lots in common. Thanks for reading.

Sounds like you have a carburetor problem. Remove, disassemble throroughly clean and reintsall the carb.
Use a high quality carb cleaner and take pictures in case things don't go well.

Thanks, Where might I find gaskets for that carburetor? I will report back.
Go to the manufacturer website and get some part numbers. Then go to amazon and get the parts. You are going to have to get the numbers off the motor...and of course the manufacturer. I'm assuming it's not some chinese machine...if that's the case all bets are off or at least I'm not going to be able to help you, someone else might though.
So.. find out the manufacturer, model ,serial, and any others you can find and start looking. Don't waste your time looking without the numbers. If you have problems take some pictures and post back.

I believe the OP is talking about a Wisconsin Robin, manufactured in Japan under license from Wisconsin engines here in the US.

Actually it is a Robin Subaru. The engine decal says 5HP 126 cc. It is approximately 7 years old. I plan to look for the numbers today. Thanks

Golly, you're right.:ashamed: It's been a long time since I had dealings with one of those. Maybe Wisconsin marketed them under license here in the US for a while? I dunno. Anyway, I do remember getting pretty good service out of it some 30 years ago. Good luck with it!:thumbsup:
Update; In case someone else has a Robin in need of repair I'll post my findings thus far. According to multiple sources Robin does not offer a carburetor rebuild kit. They will however sell you a new carburetor+/- $100... As for my issues I took the carburetor apart. I bought a gallon of cleaner in which to soak the parts for 30 minutes to one hour per the directions. First try same problem So I took it apart again. I mean everything that was detachable was detached. Soaked the parts overnight, probably 15 hours. Then I cleaned every orifice and crevice with compressed air and a steel brush. I made the two main gaskets with gasket paper and a small ball peen hammer, and used some o rings from an assortment I had. Reassembled and hallelujah it runs like new. :thumbsup: Actually when I first put it together I had the throttle butterfly upside down and it ran wide open. So I had the opportunity to R and R the Robin carburetor one more time.:confused2: Thanks to all that responded with information and/or encouragement.

I can get robin subaru parts for anyone out there for future reference, I do just need the extremely long model number when looking up the parts. It is usually stamped to the engine near the base of it. THey do not offer a rebuild kit for the engine, but they do sell the parts a la carte.
