Need help: Repowering Gravely Pro 40 w/ 16hp Vanguard engine - walk behind.

Okay, here' the deal:

1. I bought a 16hp engine from Small Engine Warehouse, 305776-0136 with the BS-Muffler 49, BS-Muffler-49 because I need the exhaust to go out the operators right hand side. This Muffler was supposed to do that.

When I received the engine yesterday I dry fit the manifold and found it hangs below the bottom of the engine and will not work. I called SEW and Briggs and Stratton tech support today and neither one was very well informed. Does anybody have any suggestions about what I might be able to use?

2. I also purchased the optional oil cooler for this engine as well. The owner's manual for the engine shows the engine shroud being perforated so air can move through the cooler. My engine shroud is not perforated. Does any body know how many holes and what size they need to be to provide adequate ventilation for the cooler? A picture of your existing cooler would be a great help.

Results engine manual & parts list

Ariens Order Owners Manuals enter model & serial numbers from data plate on unit then service manual. You're going to have to do some improvising here, bushings, spacers or washers between engine & chassis at all four bolt hole locations as well as longer bolts to raise engine for manifold clearance. I would cut shroud out carefully & completely, take measurements or trace it out for oil cooler & install wire screen.
