I have a 42" Murray Mower, model# 42514X8A, with 14.5 HP Briggs & Stratton OHV Engine model# 287707, Type: 1272-E1, Code 000512ZE. I think it was manufactured in the year of 2000.
The mower recently has problems moving while the engine is running and the gear box is in forward or backward shift.
I notice that the stack pulley of the mower is slipping around the engine shaft. You can turn the stack pulley around the engine shaft freely by hand. Does anyone know:
1. How the pulley is attached to the engine shaft?
2. Are the pulley and the shaft supposed to turn together?
3. What could possibly be the problem?
4. Is there a clutch mechanism on the coupling between the pulley and the shaft such that the pulley would lock onto the engine shaft only when the engine shaft is turning fast?
5. How can one take the stack pulley out and re-install it properly back onto the engine shaft?
Thanks for any insight and instructions.
