My 19.5 hp riding mower runs and cuts grass, but if I push throttle from turtle to rabbit it will choke off without being on choke, what should I look at to figure out what’s not working properly?

Check that the cable has not slipped under the clamp on the engine end
Otherwise the main jet is allowing too much fuel to pass it or the float has allowed too much fuel into the float chamber .

Ok, mine has a choke butterfly on the air intake side of the carburetor and a throttle butterfly on the back side of the carburetor, how can I make sure they’re working properly together

Look at the plate on the engine where the throttle cable moves the white plastic slide
Behind that plate you will see a lever that moves forward as out open the throttle
near the end of travel this lever pushes on a wire loop that closes the choke

Now what I failed to mention is the choke butterfly is spring loaded open
So if yo push that loop forward to close the choke with your finger it should spring back when you stop pushing
I have had the situation where the return spring was bad ( they are in most rebuild kits ) so at idle the choke stayed open but as the air flow increased it closed the choke as it rushes past .
