Model R7268 (1979)

I just bought a 1979 model R7268 via an ad on CraigsList -- only $20, so even if it ends up being a parts mower, I got a good deal. :smile:

There's no gas in the tank and the starter is stiff and binding. However, the compression seems good.

The deck and wheels are in very good condition considering the age of the mower. That indicates that it may not have that many hours of use.

I have high hopes for this mower. It's a close cousin to one of my favorite mowers, a 1977 model 7266.

Good find. Worth the $20 for sure. Not too many LB's on craigslist in my area. Someone usually has an ad wanting to buy them, so maybe they're snatching all of them up, lol.

That's pretty much the way it is around here (metro Atlanta). I see one every I might be interested in about every two months or so.

It needs lots of TLC for sure but I have hopes of making a fine working mower out of it.

It's a very light machine - you have to go back before the mid-1980s to find one this light. :thumbsup:

I found a very nice R7268 on a local FaceBook buy and sell for $40!!!!! I just can't believe it. She said it had been in her fathers barn for 15 years. Trying to upload a picture here, but the vacant lot between my ears can't figure out this apple computer. I can't wait to learn how to make it run better. I think it has carburetor issues, but the tires are not even worn. I also have one other nice rear bagger model and two parts mowers. Does anyone know what the best approach is to rebuilding the recoil starters? I see some on Ebay

If the motor ( F model) is in good shape, it should run forever. I've been using one for 34 years and only had to replace the seals on it once. Also replaced the ignition module years ago. That's not bad considering all the hours it has been in service.

I was with my father in 1979 when he bought the same model new. I cleaned this one up with my favorite Westleys White wall cleaner and it looks almost new and run just as good. I can't wait to use it. The biggest problem I see right now is it will not rev up when cutting grass. Adjusting the governor has always been the biggest challenge for me. I agree they do run for ever. I also have a rare model that is the rear bagger model. It was new in the box when I purchased it in 2006, so maybe this one makes up ir
