Good afternoon, I found this forum while searching for more info on my Lawnboy 5277. The serial number is 9425596. While my internet searches lead me to believe it's from 1980, I've also been told this is from 1979. So I'm wondering whether anyone here knows the year this mower is from based on this information.

This mower's been passed down to me from my dad; although he can't remember the exact year either. I also suspect he bought it used back in the 80's.

This mower's been fantastic to mow with and has never given me any issues.

Thanks in advance!

This may be of help

That's great! Thanks! One question though. The serial number on my mower is 7 digits, but the site lists 9 digit numbers, would I use the serial number range from the 1979? or 1980?

That I don't know unless you go through the parts listing for both and can find some difference between the 2 years that matches your actual mower.

You are right in the ballpark as to the year of that mower. In 1980, I purchased that same mower except it was the USA version. I still have it and it still runs great. In my opinion, you have what is perhaps the best Lawn Boy ever made. It is the perfect size for the average lot and my experience with the F motor is that it is long lasting and easily serviced. Yours looks to be in great condition. From what I see in your photos, your Dad took great care of it. Thanks for posting.

I agree that is one of the finest mowers ever made. In the USA they made that style of mower form 1978 to 1982 I believe, with F 100 engine and a plastic carb. I just sold a 21 inch model that looked just like yours that was the smoothest running lawn boy I ever had.

That's awesome. This mower is the best I've ever used. Newer mowers don't even come close. The best part is showing people that it's a 2 stroke engine. Apparently, not many people have seen a 2 stroke mower before. Proud to have this Lawnboy smoking on!

Thank you all for your help!

Yours should be a 1980 model since Lawn Boy rolled the serial numbers back to 000000001 for 1980. You have yourself a good solid Lawn Boy.
