Hey everyone,

So I have an older Craftsman LT1000 with a Briggs & Stratton 18.5 engine. It is a single piston engine and I broke the connecting rod. I'm replacing the rod and I'm having an issue with the piston position. I wire wheeled the top of the piston to get all of the carbon off and I don't know if I wire wheeled away the arrow that's' supposed to be on top. I never saw one on there and it only got a light wheeling. I'm wondering which direction I should be putting the piston in. I do have an arrow under the piston but it would not be pointing towards the flywheel when installed (if the flywheel is north and south the arrow would be east/west). I'm wondering if I can go by how the connecting rod cap is put on to determine this. I'm thinking that the bolts would be towards the camshaft side to be able to easily tighten the bolts. I know that I have the connecting rod in the piston the right way, I'm just wondering which way it needs to face. Any help is greatly appreciated.

According to the service manual there could either be a arrow on top of the piston or a notch at the edge. that mark faces the MAG on the rod and the whole assembly is then installed with the MAG/notch facing the flywheel

So my piston does not have any notches in it and there is no MAG on the new rod. I know for sure that the rod is installed on the piston in the correct direction from when I took the broken one off. Since there’s no arrow, notch, or MAG I can only go by the B&S logo. From the YouTube videos I’ve seen I’m thinking that the logo is going to be face down/facing the fly wheel
