Hey everyone,
So I have an older Craftsman LT1000 with a Briggs & Stratton 18.5 engine. It is a single piston engine and I broke the connecting rod. I'm replacing the rod and I'm having an issue with the piston position. I wire wheeled the top of the piston to get all of the carbon off and I don't know if I wire wheeled away the arrow that's' supposed to be on top. I never saw one on there and it only got a light wheeling. I'm wondering which direction I should be putting the piston in. I do have an arrow under the piston but it would not be pointing towards the flywheel when installed (if the flywheel is north and south the arrow would be east/west). I'm wondering if I can go by how the connecting rod cap is put on to determine this. I'm thinking that the bolts would be towards the camshaft side to be able to easily tighten the bolts. I know that I have the connecting rod in the piston the right way, I'm just wondering which way it needs to face. Any help is greatly appreciated.
