I have a Lawnboy 10607 that has sens a speed. When I engage the cable to make to self propelled, it will not move at all. I have adjusted the cable, and it still just will not engage. Turning the mower on its side, I can see that the spring just does not move forward enough when pressing the handle, to engage. But I can bring the spring forward, with my finger, and it appears to engage (of course this is done when not running the mower). Anyone have any idea what could be wrong with the self propelled unit? Many thanks.

The way I understand it, when you push down on the handle, it tightens a cable which rotates the transmission on a pivot which engages the rear pulley (transmission input) to the spinning belt. So you either do not have enough travel with the push control handle, the handle is binding or an adjustment that is WAY loose. Could be the belt is worn or stretched and you ran out of adjustment. I suppose it's possible to have a slipping pulley on a shaft but pretty rare on a push mower.
Four things which could be the cause of the problem. Bad belt, bad drive gears on the wheels or shaft, misadjusted cable and worn tranny. One pull the drive wheels off and check to see if the gear teeth look good. Two remove the belt cover and start the engine. Does the belt turn the pulley, but no drive? You said you adjusted the cable, but check and adjust again with the cover off. Post back what you find. I am out most of today, but there are others who will help if I'm not back.
My son-in-law came by this morning, and fixed it for me. It was the belt. Her replaced it, and doing fine now.

I can work more on the old 2cycle LB's, and these newer ones are sometimes over my head. I am certainly not a good mechanic, but learned a few things on the older ones.
