Lawn Boy F engine types

What is the difference in all the different Lawn Boy F engines? I seen there was the F100 F200 and F300 series, one of mine has a F201 for example. I know there are differences in the self propelled and push model engines like the case/cylinder assembly and crank are different.

Well, all "F" engines use the same Piston, Rings, Rod. The differences are external. As you mentioned the earlier self-propelled models had a different block casting to accomodate the gear for the self-propelled. Later self-propelled used a regular "F" with an external pulley (for a belt) on the regular drive-shaft. Most differences on "F" engine mowers involve different carbs, different engine shrouds, and of course different pull-starter configurations.

Do all the starter types interchange between motors? Would a motor with the recoil on the top that pulls from the handle or "zone" be able to change/swap over to a side starter "zone" pull?

The "side-starter" that mounts below the shroud is held on by a hex-nut and a cast hole in the reed-plate. You could substitute a reed-plate bottom crankcase casting to do this.
