Tearing apart the carburetor as engine runs fine yet way over speed. Carb is off and gas is everywhere. Gas shut off doesnt work fully and going to add an inline shut off valve. I also believe the float isnt functioning properly. Someone mentioned that they used some sort if model airplane spray/sealant to coat an old float to allow it to do its job. Does anyone know what the product is called or a similar equivalent? Going to restore this once i have it running proper.
Cannot download pic because it says its too large (thats what she said :))

Welcome to the forum.

When I prepare images for a forum post I use the free Windows Paint program to crop and then to resize prior to posting. I find that 800x600 image size works best for me.

Here is an example at that size.

Replacement float number is 678113 which is NLA, but if you do a little searching you should be able to find one. I personally have never had one of those floats go bad unless the metal clip let loose. Your problem is more likely a bad needle and seat, Lawn Boy part number 92-9697.

eBay has plenty of available floats and needle valves for your mower. Some people choose to go with the modern plastic float, but when I rebuilt the carb on my 5024 a couple years ago, I just went with the original cork float. I figured that the first one lasted 44 years, so the new one should at least give me another 20. 46 year old Bricktop and it still fires up on the first pull. Love it!

Matt
