A bit more info would help like models of both engines and equipment model but sounds like the Kohler has a solenoid with the starter and the briggs doesnt.
Assuming a thick and thin wire, thick wire to starter and thin wire will be your ignition live wire to power your solenoid to allow power to the thick wire to turn the starter but this is a guess until you have numbers.
Yes sir you are correct about the two wires and the starters also, the problem with the numbers is this, the little silver (non metal) tag on the valve cover has faded I would assume due to heat. However the numbers there are un readable. I do have family numbers for both engines.
Briggs: 5BSXS.7242VF-276023
Kohler: 4KHXS.7252GC
The wiring harness plug is the same type of plug but the wires on the engines are different, and when I made the system hot the starter tryed to engage so I knew there was a problem. Any info appreciated!
