Just inherited 2 Kohler K141 motors and hoping to get both running. The guy that let me have them stated there was no spark on the one I am currently playing with. I've removed the flywheel and see it has the later mageneto fitted and wonder if it is still working. How do I test the mageneto?

Thanks Rivets, I have that manual but can't see any specs in there for the magneto

Ive used a multimeter to check the mag which gave me a reading of 4.85K but no idea if this is way below spec or is ok. Want to check before I rebuild.

I like to have primary resistance (small wire to ground) below 15 ohms and secondary resistance (spark plug wire to ground) 12K-15K ohms.

Are you checking with the mag installed or off the unit? Second question, did you disconnect the primary wire from the points and condenser before checking if it is installed?

Ok, then I would agree that the coil may be bad.

yep, they seem a reasonable price and will fit electronic ignition at the same time.
