My Kohler Command Pro ECH740-3007 started making a ticking noise. I took everything apart and replaced the hydraulic lifters, I had heard something about purging/priming the new ones before installation but my local Kohler dealer told me that wasn't necessary. After I replaced the lifters and reassembled the engine, I started it up and then changed the oil. I gave it about 20 minutes of run time and it's still ticking. What should I do next?

Work out where the ticking is coming from
Pounds to peanuts it will be a sticking valve or loose ACR
So out with the stethescope or the long screwdriver and have a listen

How do I determine whether it’s a sticky valve or not?

You get a listenig device like a screwdriver with a blade that goes all the way through
Then you press it against the motor in different places following the path of louder ticking.
If you end up at the head near the valves & the head gasket then it is a valve
If you end up 1/2 way down the barrel it is a lifter
Not 100% but gives you a place to start .
10,000 egos posting to face ache to show you how it is done.

So, I took it all apart again. Made sure to soak the lifters. I even rebuilt the valves. Still ticking, I'm at a loss with this one.
